Podstars

If you haven't seen it on my Twitter or on Erin's Facebook (or others' Facebooks), I thought you might want to know that Corbin and I recorded a podcast. We had a great time, and it has been exciting to see how many people have listened to it. We're excited to do it again!

The BIG kitchen Reveal!

Wow, it's finally finished! Our living room, dining room, and kitchen are all back together. There are still a few small details to take care of and to work our way through painting trim but it's 98% done! So here are a few before and after pictures to help remind you of what it looked like!

Old corner cabinet space
New corner cabinet!

Old kitchen sink view
New sink view!
I took some staged pictures...where I wish my countertops were as clear as they are in the pics...then some pictures of a normal day :-) I also tried to edit some of the photos with the windows and different views from the dining and living rooms.

We had to keep a small chalkboard wall

Welcome, this is the view from coming in through the back mudroom/entryway.

The under the cabinet lights are great AND our counter is REALLy reflective! Wow!

Our sink! We are washing on the right and drying on the left. Also super glad we went with the on-demand hot & cold water! Just wish they weren't so squished. Oh well...

We love the stove in front of the window! It looks so cool and light!

We knew our old oven was not good but didn't realize how bad it was until we started baking in this. The broil is a little finicky but otherwise so amazing!

Our pantry and fridge. The fridge is HUGE! But no magnets. So one thing we need is a cork board or magnet board for things like school menus and schedules.

The view through the rest of the house!

See those reflections!??

All our cookbooks that we hardly use anymore :-) But love!

Was still deciding on the cushions but think I might keep them for special occasions. Not main kid use...

We pained the cabinet the same as the trim and added the same handles as the cabinets. I am still playing what we might go on the shelves.

From the front door!

Everything is really feeling like it's coming together. I might change up the curtain colors to white to brighten up this room.

View from the couch!
We are super excited about some of the features that make it more user friendly! We felt like we gained cabinet space but then we realized we moved appliances from the counters into the pantry and cabinets. We also lost some mudroom storage...so we are still playing with where everything fits.

Micro-wave, flours & baking, canned goods, food, and appliances

Our special secret appliance spots for those rarely used appliances- deep fryer and bread maker go up and behind the wine rack inside the pantry!

So excited for our vertical shelves!

This is to the right of the stove drawers. we measured specifically for the electric griddle to go here :-) Pancakes are a staple in our house!

Our spice drawer!!

Trash and food waste/compost in a pull out drawer.

I LOVE being able to start the dishwasher at any point. I LOVE not having to hook it up to the faucet. I LOVE how many things can fit in there! I LOVE it... although the controls are always getting bumped if you lean against it... :-)

LOVE our double oven! Love the small griddle that goes on it if we want- perfect for grilled cheese and quesadillas!

Here is what it looks like on a typical day. We are still working out our radio/music situation, etc...

We luckily had another big wall to hang our HUGE wedding guest art! Yay!

We decided to redo (ourselves) the mudroom/entry way. Adam took down the siding and put up sheet rock. I painted it and scrubbed (with a toothbrush) all the mold on the windowpanes.  We are deciding to keep it free of curtains and let light in...

Wow! I still can't believe it's ours sometimes! I am cleaning it obsessively... we will see how long that lasts. We eat most meals at the bar/counter because the table has had so much on it... :-) Thanks to our awesome helpers and our contractor, Tom Lawson who was awesome. We can't wait to have a kitchen warming party!

I am trying to upload the 360 degree video of the kitchen...soon.

Sneak peak

Just a little sneak peak... I want everything to  be put away before I give a full 360 degree view of all the fun things. It's already a mess. I keep pinching myself to see if it's real. We are learning about it. Making things fit and work. We LOVE it!

Countertops!

We have countertops! Yahoo!! We originally thought we wanted concrete and got talked out of it. Then we thought quartz would be a cheaper option. Adam really doesn't like busy counter tops. He does not like the look or generic granite or fancy granite. I knew I liked the look of solid black, so we finally decided on Absolute Black Granite and it actually turned out to be one of the cheapest granite options! It looks great but might be tricky to keep clean!

We were not supposed to be here when they installed it but Corbin got sick before our big friends family camping trip :-(.  So he and Adam where here when they came to install it. (The did get to join the camping fun later that day!).

I guess Absolute Black is really heavy!

It was so cool to come home to it today! Our trim is all finished, the crown moulding is up, and the stove hood got installed today too. Our tile was supposed to start today but was on back order and did not arrive till this afternoon. Hopefully tomorrow.

Such a big open nice space! Cooking, homework, hanging out, food, eating breakfast and drinking coffee!

We also got lights today. The lights over the counter tomorrow.

Perfect place for snacks!

And now for our one grumbly part... again, I am not sure how I could have prevented this or asked different questions... We ended up getting an instant hot water heater/cold water dispenser and our faucet has a soap dispenser. We thought we would put one on each side of the sink. Then when they came to take measurements for the sink, they said that there was very little room on the left side of the sink for the hot water, so we decided to put them all on the right side. We are pretty sure we told him to put the hot water on the corner and then the soap in the middle but giving them more space in between...instead it's like this.
And now the faucet handle is going to be really close to the soap dispenser. The hole on the right was supposed to be on the corner, not on the edge. Ugh! So we are not sure what to do now... we are going to call them tomorrow.

This kitchen is going to be beautiful but I have never had granite (dark) and stainless steel before...so any advice on how to keep them clean and streak free is welcome :-)
